Food Service Manager
Anselm House is seeking an organized and missionally aligned Food Service Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Melrose Station kitchen. This position supports Anselm House’s mission to cultivate Christian community, hospitality, and intellectual life at the University of Minnesota by ensuring that kitchen operations are efficient, compliant, and aligned with the organization’s commitment to excellence in hospitality and student formation.
The Food Service Manager will oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, support meal preparation for programs and events, uphold food safety and cleanliness standards, manage inventory and vendor relationships, and care for kitchen equipment and facilities. The ideal candidate is organized, hospitable, and detail-oriented, with a commitment to excellence in service and to the formation of the students and guests Anselm House serves.

Anselm House is a center for Christian thought and formation serving the University of Minnesota community. Our mission is to help students and faculty connect faith and knowledge with all of life. We provide hospitality and educational programs for students, host conversations, lectures, and courses for the broader university community, and support faculty and academic engagement through our Center for Faith & Learning.
For more than forty years, Anselm House has equipped students, faculty, and university leaders for faithful service in the university, the church, and the world. Anselm House has historic roots in two organizations serving the University of Minnesota: Christian Student Fellowship, founded in 1974, and the MacLaurin Institute, founded in 1982.
Our Namesake
St. Anselm of Canterbury was an 11th-century theologian, philosopher, monk, and church leader. He is remembered for the phrase “faith seeking understanding,” reflecting his conviction that faith and knowledge are deeply interconnected. His life of thoughtful faithfulness provides a model for Anselm House’s presence at the university.

Qualified candidates should possess:
- Experience in kitchen management, food service, or hospitality preferred.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices.
- ServSafe, Food Safety Manager, or other applicable certification.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven, team-oriented environment.
- Alignment with the mission and values of Anselm House.
Details
Kitchen Operations and Food Service
The Food Service Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Melrose Station kitchen, ensuring that food service supports Anselm House programs and events. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing day-to-day kitchen operations, including meal preparation support for programs and events such as Fellows Nights, lectures, and gatherings.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety in compliance with health regulations.
- Ensuring proper maintenance and care of kitchen equipment and facilities.
Inventory, Purchasing, and Vendor Management
This role will manage the supplies and supplier relationships needed to keep the kitchen well stocked and operating efficiently. Responsibilities include:
- Managing kitchen inventory and monitoring supply levels.
- Coordinating purchasing and maintaining vendor relationships.
Hospitality and Event Support
The Food Service Manager will partner with program staff to create a welcoming environment that reflects Anselm House’s commitment to hospitality. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with program staff to support events and gatherings.
- Cultivating a welcoming, hospitable environment for students, faculty, and guests.

Schedule and Compensation
This position is available as either part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate and the hours worked. Part-time is anticipated at approximately 15–20 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours up to full-time if desired. Hours are consistent week to week, with regular evening availability required during the academic year. Hourly rate is based on experience (approx. $26–27/hour).
